ViaSat Inc. is a communications company based in Carlsbad, California with additional operations across the United States and worldwide. ViaSat is a provider of high-speed satellite broadband services and secure networking systems covering military and commercial markets. ViaSat is ranked on the SpaceNews Top 50 space companies and is also included on the Defense News list of Top 100 defense companies.ViaSat owns and operates Exede Internet, a satellite internet provider for over 657,000 households.ViaSat launched its satellite, ViaSat-1, in 2011, and its second satellite, ViaSat-2, will launch in 2017.

ViaSat-1 is part of a new satellite system architecture created by ViaSat Inc. with support of government of the Isle of Man. The objective is to create a better satellite broadband user experience, making satellite competitive with DSL and wireless broadband alternatives for the first time.

ViaSat-2 will be a commercial communications satellite which will be the world's highest capacity communications satellite after its launch in late 2017 with an estimated capacity of 350 Gb/s. It is the second Ka-band satellite launched by ViaSat after ViaSat-1. The satellite will provide satellite internet through Exede Internet to North America, parts of South America, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Ocean.
